If you've been out of town, you might be surprised at all that's happening in Highland Park.

Zeina Middle Eastern restaurant opened its doors this past month in the location formerly occupied by Seven Hills; its blend of Turkish and Lebanese is already winning over Highland Park.
MC Bakeshop also opened its doors while you were away. They are a full-service bakery specializing in cupcakes, cheesecakes and much more. Stop in soon!
Fit for Me opened in the spot formerly occupied by Curves. Grace is back, and so is the fun and fitness!
Watch for two new openings later this month: CyberKnight Computers relocates to Highland Park! and Make-me-Take-me, a child-centered arts and crafts shop is looking forward to opening this month.
There have been makeovers for Zeina, White Lotus Home, Rite Aid, MC Bakeshop, Rebarber Chiropractic and Make-me-Take-me Crafts.
Eden Organix celebrated its one-year anniversary in July, Salon Envy celebrates 10 years (see below) and Anna's Health Food will celebrate 20 years next month.

As a teen, George Kokkinis was interested in football and high school. He never thought he’d own a hair salon.
But Kokkinis, who grew up in Highland Park, is celebrating the 10th anniversary of owning Salon Envy, 242 Raritan Ave.

“I love what I do, but I never thought about doing this. I get paid to play with hair,” he said.

While Kokkinis, 38, loves being a business owner, he said he’s had to sacrifice his personal life to have a successful business. “The salon is open five days a week, but I work seven. My wife’s name is ‘Salon Envy,’” he joked.

Aside from growing up in the borough, Kokkinis said opening a business on Raritan Avenue in Highland Park was a smart decision. More...
