See for yourself why Highland Park is the place to be in May!
The weekend of May 16 and 17 promises to be packed full of entertainment and activity--Planting Day, A Run in the Park and Street Fair all happen one weekend in mid-May.
Planting Day starts the weekend, Saturday, May 16, at 10:00 a.m. Volunteers will fill 107 containers with plants ranging from sweet potato vines and petunias to lantanas and ornamental grasses. Main Street Highland Park supplies the plants and sends you on your way. Those who don’t consider themselves gardeners should still come anyway. Main Street volunteers will assist planters, each of whom will be given a set of plants and a drawing to indicate where each plant should be planted. More...

The Main Street Highland Park volunteer race committee is restructuring the first 5K race to honor local activist and runner Riki Jacobs.
Planning was already underway for Main Street Highland Park’s A Run in the Park when Riki Jacobs, local activist and runner, died on March 14 of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). She was 51.
Kim Hammond and Bonnie Kortrey, friends of Jacobs, approached the Main Street committee about having the May 17 race in her honor, said James McCrone, executive director of MSHP.
“The committee was excited to say yes. She loved the community and this is the community honoring her,” McCrone said of Jacobs, who was executive director of Hyacinth AIDS Foundation.
