Spring Forward with Planting Day, May 16

"A Run in the Park", Highland Park 5K Race, Sunday May 17

Main Street Highland Park is looking for volunteers to participate in the 6th Annual Planting Day, where residents and friends fill planters in the borough with vibrant flowers and grass.
The event gets bigger every year. “The first year, it was really just the Main Street contacts, but at this point, people look forward to it,” said Meredith Carman, event co-chairwoman. “Two years ago, we almost had to turn people away.”
Volunteers will fill 107 containers with plants ranging from sweet potato vines and petunias to lantanas and grasses.
“The grasses are the central plant. It provides the height and texture,” Carman said. “And the petunias and lantanas provide the color.” The event gets bigger every year more...

For Paul Lanaris, it was the way he was raised – learning that you give back to your community. For Diane Hoffman, she wants to keep Highland Park’s downtown vibrant. And for Dr. Howard Sherman, volunteering is what community is about.

These three Highland Park residents and business owners know the importance of giving back to their community and have donated time to Main Street Highland Park (MSHP), but there is room for more volunteers.
